About German Infante

Let us please pray for another batchmate, German "Gerry" Infante, who is battling the big "C". German (see his pics in the previous posts) is my confidante then and now as we toil in this big city of Manila. He is now the president of Vintex Shipping (Phils.) Corp., a big ship manning company giving opportunities to our seafarers. I was his only guest from our high school batch during his wedding way back 1985. He confided to me of his ailment in the second week of this month.

Bay Gerry, knowing your will power and love for life we know you will wither this storm.

Guys, you may reach Gerry at 09175746381.

A Sad Month for Our Batch

'Twas a sad time for a our batch. Lourdes A., texted me about the demise of our dear classmate Lou Valencia, the diminutive athlete who used to don the national colors for soccer. He died last 9 June 2009 and buried on the 11th. (I was at Dumaguete last 12th to 14th  and not was able to make  it to his wake.)

To our beloved Lou who added color to our four years of high school life as he did us proud, you will always be in our hearts forever, our batchmate and our friend.

Those who don't look at the past, can't reach the future

Hello everyone!  I am actually apprehensive to share and contribute in this blog because I feel I don’t belong to the smart and intelligent Section-A class. We have in this group, the Honorable Atty. Calumpong whose life is dedicated to serving the less fortunate (sounds true no!!!) and the ever dazzling and successful businessman Joel Dayao who is now a big shot in Makati. Naa sila Lourdes, Joji, Leah, Marlene, of course Roxanne, all have flourishing careers and all others nga wa nako kabalo asa na, I am sure successful sad 'to sila.  You know, I and Absalon, maybe Orlene if anyone remembered us belong to Section-D. Presenting man lang gani ko sa mga Section-A para matak-dan sad sa ila ka bright. Although dili tanan nga Section-A na amigo namo, pero most of them are truly true and reliable friends.

There are wonderful memories that flash in my mind in our last days in our high school life. Remember our bivouac in Camanjac man kaha to. We had the chance to be responsible and resourceful on that event. Nag-walking man lang gani ta ato, wala pa hinu-on to insurgents at that time. Enjoy kaayo ta tanan ato. Also remember kato pong Home Economics nga dating lesson so everyone has the change to be aware what it takes to be a gentleman or a lady. Naa pud ta ato disco.

Let’s reminisce those moments to brighten our day. It will never come again so mag reflections na lang ta. We will just strive to do the best we can in everything we do. As the saying goes:

I expect to pass through this world but once;
any good thing therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show to any fellow-creature,
let me do it now;
let me not defer or neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again"

My friends, let’s put this in our minds and in our hearts. Let this be our guiding spirit in our journey to our future.

May God bless us all.

Leo Euraoba

PS:

This opportunity given to us to connect each other through digital means should be exploited. The more nga maka communicate ta sa ato mga friends, the more we become younger and vibrant at the same time conscientious for others.

I humbly share my Friendster and Facebook accounts. Just type leoeuraoba@yahoo.com for contact person. Hope to see you there.

I hope we all have the chance to attend our next class reunion. We should try to open our line of communication through digital means. We should share our wonderful memories of our past life. Let’s pray that God will bless us all.

To All Folks Born in the 50's, 60's and 70's...

Hi Guys, Got this from my email and had a great time laughing. Naigo gyud, right straight to the apapangig.  Share lang nako ha. (Thanks to the original sender, whoever you are.)

===================================================

First, some of us survived being born to mothers who did not have an ob-gyne and drank San Miguel Beer while they carried us.

While pregnant, they took cold or cough medicine, ate linunod, balikutsa, bukhayo and didn't worry about diabetes.

Then after all that trauma, our baby cribs were made of hard wood covered with lead-based paints. Ang uban kay duyan nga habol gihigtan ug pisi nga inigtabyog ug kusog mapakong intawon ‘ta sa bongbong.

We had no soft cushy cribs that play music, no disposable diapers. Lampin lang sa General Milling nga naa'y faded picture nga nag-salute. And when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, no kneepads, wala pa gyu'y brake ang bisikleta.

As children, we would ride in hot un-airconditioned buses with wooden seats (Bisaya Bus nga pultahan puros ang kilid, Corominas Bus nga senimana ang brake), or cars with no airconditioning & no seat belts. Karon kay minibus na nga nindot kaayo ug sounds or Ceres bus nga bugnaw ug aircon.

Riding on the back of a carabao on a breezy summer day was considered a treat. Karon, ang mga bata wala na kaila ug kalabaw.

We drank water from the garden hose and not bottled mineral water sa Nature Spring or Viva, or Absolute Mineral water. Usahay gani, straight from the faucet or poso or atabay!

We shared one soft drink bottle with four of our friends, and no one actually died from this or contacted hepatitis.

We ate rice with Star margarine, bahaw nga gibutangan ug asin ug mantika sa baboy, drank raw eggs straight from the shell, and drank sofdrinks with real sugar in it, dili diet coke or Pepsi Max but we weren't sick or overweight kay... WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day and, tago-tago, ngita'g kaka.

No one was able to reach us all day (wala pa'y uso ang cellphone). And yes, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our wooden trolleys (katong bearing ang ligid) or karitong kawayan nga karaang tsinilas ang giporma nga ligid and then ride down the street. Wala ma'y gidungog nga naligsan ato! After hitting the sidewalk or falling into a canal (sewage channel) a few times, we learned to solve the problem ourselves with our bare & dirty hands .

We did not have Playstation's, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 100-channel cable, no DVD movies, no surround stereo, no ipod's, no cell phones, no computers, no internet, no chat rooms, and no friendsters. ...WE HAD REAL FRIENDS. And we went outside to actually talk and play with them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no stupid lawsuits from these accidents. The only rubbing we get is from our friends with the words, “Sakit bai?” Pero kung kontra gani nimo ang imong kadula,,,,singgitan lang dayon ug, ”May’ra, 'gabaan!”

We played marbles (jolen) in the dirt, washed our hands just a little and ate pan bahug-bahug & bagumbayan (recycled bread man diay to kay wala mahalin!) We were not afraid of getting germs in our stomachs.

We had to live with homemade guns (giporma nga kahoy, gihigtan ug garter ug lastiko), saplong, tirador ug uban pa nga pwedeng magkasakitay. Pero lingaw gihapon kaayo ang tanan.

We made up games with sticks (syatong), and cans (bato-lata) and although we were told they were dangerous, wala man gyud to'y actual nga nabuta ba, bukol lang nuon sa agtang naa.

We walked, rode bikes, or took tricycles to a friend's house and knocked on the door or batoon ug gagmay nga bato ang bungbong, or just yelled for them to jump out the window!

Mini basketball teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't pass had to learn to deal with the disappointment.

That generation of ours has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, creative thinkers and successful professionals ever! They are the CEO's, Engineers, Doctors and Military Generals of today.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had failure, success, and responsibility. We learned from our mistakes the hard way.

You might want to share this with others who've had the luck to grow up as real kids. We were lucky indeed.

And if you like, forward this to your kids too, so they will know how brave their parents were.

It kind of makes you wanna go out and climb a tree, doesn't it?
